About Base Layer Robotics

Founder-led deep-tech research and engineering.

The Effort

Base Layer Robotics is an independent, founder-led effort focused on building the foundational intelligence layer for physical robots. It operates more like a research lab than a traditional startup, prioritizing long-term technical breakthroughs over short-term marketing metrics.

Motivation

The motivation behind BLR is rooted in the conviction that the next leap in AI will not happen purely in the cloud, but in the physical world. However, the current tools for training embodied intelligence are fragile, heavily abstracted, and struggle to bridge the gap between simulation and reality.

BLR exists to solve this problem empirically. By building the Dojo platform in tandem with physical hardware like the B1 prototype, we ensure every architectural decision is grounded in the reality of noisy sensors, computational limits, and the unforgiving laws of physics.

Focus

  • Sim-to-Real Resilience: Training policies that withstand the transition to physical hardware zero-shot.
  • High-Throughput RL Infrastructure: Scaling learning dynamics effectively with custom tools like the Vectorized Cluster Buffer.
  • Hardware Integration: Proving out software hypotheses with actual physical robots.
